• storage: To save your preferences and settings locally in your browser.
• activeTab: To access and interact with the Discord tab when you're using it.
• tabs: To detect when you're on Discord and enable the extension functionality.
• host permissions (discord.com): To read and interact with Discord's web interface, allowing the extension to identify and summarize messages.

These permissions are essential for the core functionality of the extension. We request only the minimum permissions necessary to provide the summarization service. The extension does not access any websites other than Discord, and it only activates when you're on Discord's website.

Information We Collect

When you use the Discord Summarizer extension, we collect the following information:

• Message Content: The text content of Discord messages that you choose to summarize.
• User Preferences: Your selected summarization mode, style, and other preferences stored locally in your browser.
• Discord User ID: A unique identifier used to associate your preferences with your Discord account. This helps us maintain consistent settings across sessions and enables channel-specific features.

Important: We only process message content when you explicitly request a summary by clicking the "Summarize" button. We do not continuously monitor or collect messages from your Discord conversations.

Why We Use Discord User ID

The Discord User ID is used for the following purposes:

• Consistent Experience: To provide a consistent experience across browsing sessions by associating your preferences with a unique identifier.
• API Request Identification: To identify requests sent to our summarization API, ensuring proper handling of your summarization requests.
• Channel-Specific Features: To enable features that are specific to certain Discord channels or servers you use.

If we cannot access your Discord User ID (due to privacy settings or technical limitations), the extension will generate a temporary ID that persists in your browser's local storage. This ensures the extension works properly even without access to your actual Discord User ID.

The temporary ID is prefixed with "temp_" and is only stored locally on your device. It is not shared with our servers or any third parties.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

• To generate summaries of Discord messages using Google Gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25.
• To provide and maintain the functionality of the extension.
• To improve the extension based on usage patterns and feedback.
• To store your preferences for future use.

Data Storage and Security

Your preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. Message content is temporarily processed on our secure servers and through Google's Gemini API to generate summaries, but is not permanently stored.

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-Party Services

We use Google's Gemini API (specifically Gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25) to process and summarize Discord messages. Your use of the Discord Summarizer extension is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We encourage you to review these policies.

The extension interacts with Discord's web interface but does not share your data with Discord beyond what you already share by using their service.
